Men’s Fashion Tips have recently taken up what we can officially confirm as the world’s trickiest sport – Golf! Along with the thorny issue of trying to get an orb the size of a 2 pence piece into a hole the size of a pint glass 500 yards away, using basically a thin metal twig (and that’s not even factoring in the elements), one of the major learning curves on our journey to golfing nirvana is the clothing etiquette.
Having turned up on the course for my first official round sporting chino shorts, a polo shirt and a pair of converse, it became fairly clear fairly quickly that I was going to have to do some work on my golfing attire just to fit in, let alone stand out on the golf course. To be perfectly honest, my first impressions of golf clothing before taking up the game weren’t always the most favourable (take Mr Ian Poulter for example……..)
However, not all golf clothing has to be quite as garish. For the golf course, Mens Fashion Tips recommends dressing like the sport itself; refined, understated and classy, especially for beginners. You might JUST be able to pull off some Poulter style checked trousers if you’re an established member of the PGA tour. However, if like me you struggle to get under 120, blending in a little is no bad thing; the less attention the better!
So we recommend keeping things relatively plain – combine some chinos with a well fitted polo shirt. You can find great mens golf shirts from a wide range of brands online. Mens Fashion Tips likes this understated Calloway Golf Henrik polo shirt
Alternatively, for the winter months, you’re probably going to need to wrap up warmer. Why not look at stylish golf jumpers from Function18 to keep you warm on the green on those biting winter mornings? Mens Fashion Tips are big fans of the classic Lyle and Scott jumpers, particularly this V neck patterned pullover
Golf is one of the few games where mastering your emotions is nearly as difficult as mastering the basics of the game itself. Give yourself a head start by looking the part!
